3/2/2026
Cody Logan Fohrenkam, 33, was sentenced Monday to 340 months for the shooting death of Deshaun Hill in February 2022.
Earlier this month, Mr. Fohrenkam pleaded guilty to one count of second-degree intentional murder and accepted the 340-month sentence under the terms of the plea.
Deshaun Hill, Jr. was born on March 13, 2006, and was a star athlete, playing both football and basketball for North High School. He was an honor roll student and a natural leader.
“Deshaun had an astounding impact on the people around him. He was a beacon of light to many, and the pain of his loss will always be felt by his family and his community,” Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty said. “I hope the resolution of this case after four years brings some small measure of peace to his loved ones. You have been in our thoughts throughout this entire process.”
On February 26, 2023, a jury found Mr. Fohrenkam guilty of second-degree murder in this case. That conviction was later vacated by the Court of Appeals, and the case was sent back to the trial court.
The HCAO faced significant challenges that did not exist during the first trial due to evidentiary rulings from both the Court of Appeals and the trial court. This guilty plea required Mr. Fohrenkam to admit that he killed Mr. Hill.It also provides Deshaun’s loved ones and his community finality from the court process.
Mr. Fohrenkam has 1044 days of credit for time already served.
