Mr. Mason was convicted by a jury of the following counts in November 2025:
- Second-degree unintentional murder while committing a felony
- Illegal possession of a firearm
“Our thoughts are with Dontevius’s family today. He should still be with them,” Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty said. “This has been a long process, but I hope today’s result gives them some closure. Mr. Mason’s sentence holds him accountable and protects the community from further harm.”
The State requested the Court find an upward durational departure to 420 months for the second-degree unintentional murder charge. The Court granted an upward departure to 360 months to run concurrently with a 60-month sentence for illegal possession of a firearm.
