Mickiah Jackson sentenced to 480 months after conviction at trial of second-degree murder

5/11/2026

Mickiah Latrell Jackson, 40, was sentenced Monday to 480 months for the April 2025 murder of Derrick Ewing in Minneapolis.

Mr. Jackson was found guilty by a Hennepin County jury on both charges he faced:

  • One count of second-degree intentional murder
  • One count of prohibited possession of a firearm

His trial occurred in March 2026 and ran for 10 days.

“My thoughts are with Derrick Ewing’s family and loved ones. Derrick should still be alive,” Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty said. “This was a terrible act of violence and today’s sentence ensures Mr. Jackson will not commit additional harm. I’m grateful to our trial team and our victim services specialists for their work on this case, and to the jurors for their service.”

Mr. Jackson has 371 days of credit for time already served.

Case Number: 27-CR-25-11323
