Woodland sentenced to 366 month prison sentence for killing girlfriend

9/14/2022

On Sept. 12, 55-year-old Jerome Woodland, of Minneapolis, was sentenced to 366 months in prison for killing his girlfriend in April 2021, Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman announced Wednesday.

"My condolences go out to the victim and her family," Freeman said. "The damage caused by intimate partner violence is often deep and relentless. We hope this conviction and sentence begins to bring some degree of justice to the family."

A jury found Woodland guilty on intentional second-degree murder-not premeditated, and unintentional second-degree murder while committing a felony on July 28, 2022.

Victim survivors of intimate partner violence are encouraged to call the Domestic Abuse Service Center (DASC) at 612-348-5073, or visit DASC, which is located on the lower level of the Government Center, and open Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. If assistance is needed beyond hours of operation, please contact Day One via phone at 1-866-223-1111 or text at (612) 399-9995.

Resources can also be found by calling the National Domestic Violence Hotline, call 1-800-799-7233 or text START to 88788.
